Bondi

Bondi is a popular tourist attraction, people from different countries visit, most of these tourists go to Bondi beach, this is because it is the most commonly known place in Bondi. The beach is one kilometre long. Surf Life Saving Australia has given the beach different hazard ratings in 2004. The results of this are, the northern side being a rating of a 4 and the southern side rated a 7 due to the famous rip current known as the "Backpackers Express". It was added to the Australian National Heritage List in 2008. There is a commercial area along Campbell Parade and the streets on the sides, it features many popular cafes, restaurants and hotels.

Location
Bondi is located seven kilometres east of Sydneys central business district (CBD). It is in the northern side of Tamarama, Bronte and Waverley. The postcode of Bondi is 2026, it is in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. It is included in the local government area of Waverly Council.sydney_map_city.jpg

History
Bondi is said to be a corruption of an Aboriginal word "boondi" meaning 'water breaking over rocks' or 'noise of water breaking on the rocks'. It was established in 1851. In 1851 Francis O'Brien and his father-in-law Edward Smith Hall purchased 200 acres of Bondi, mostly the beach frontage, they named it "The Bondi Estate." Between 1855 and 1877 Francis O'Brien purchased Edward's share of the land, and renamed it "O'Brien Estate", and made the surrounding area open to the public as a picnic ground. In June 1882 the Government acted to make Bondi beach open to the public. In 1933 the Government made busses running every half and hour to Bondi Junction, a year later Bondi Beach had regular buses traveling to the beach every half an hour. In late 1906, the first electric tram service at Bondi beach opened.

Lifesaving clubs
Bondi Surf Bathers' Life Saving Club is the world's first surf life saving club. Members of Bondi invented the surf reel and many other items of surf lifesaving. Both Bondi Surf Bathers and North Bondi Surf lifesaving clubs were involved in the largest rescue ever in a single day, this day is known as 'Black Sunday'.
Media
Bondi is Australia's most popular beach, on Christmas day up to 4,000 people vist the beach. Bondi has many media, there is a television series called Bondi Rescue dedicated to the hard working Lifesavers. There is Bondi FM a radio station that is broadcast 24 hours a day from the top of the Hotel Bondi. Another television show called 'Bondi Vet' is, based in Bondi Junction, about two vets Dr Chris Brown and Dr Lisa Chimes. During the 2000 Summer Olympics, Bondi Beach hosted the beach volleyball competitions.

Demographics
The population of Bondi is over 29,920, the average age is 34. The age statistics 0-4 years 5.67%, 5-19 years 10.69%, 20-39 years 46.69%, 40-59 years 22.68%, 60 years and over 14.27%. 50.81% of the population is not married and as shown most of the people living in Bondi is between the age of 20 and 39. This is probably because of the famous beach being filmed every summer and there is mostly flats, units and apartments.
